Обычные японские городские парни Мутта и Хибито Намба в детстве обожали фиксировать на пленку звуки природы, стараясь найти что-то редкое и памятное. Ребятам повезло — они увидели НЛО, вскоре скрывшийся за лунным диском, и даже смогли что-то записать. Младший брат, 10-летний Хибито, тогда твердо решил стать астронавтом и десятки лет спустя добился своего, вступив в отряд НАСА, готовящийся к экспедиции на Луну. Мутта же стал известным автоконструктором, но в 35 лет, самом расцвете сил, потерял работу, поссорившись с шефом и вылетев с «волчьим билетом». В итоге младший брат приблизился к славе, а старший рухнул на дно жизни.
